ICEBERG ALLEY PERFORMANCE TENT CONCERTS

After a hiatus since 2020 due to Covid Pandemic, the popular Iceberg Alley Performance Tent Concert series are back in late summer of 2021. 11 days of scheduled music events with over 30 bands were featured during the event or festival. Two opening acts and followed by a headliner band each night with restricted reduced capacity under Covid rules still drew in sold out concerts. Iceberg Alley Concerts

Iceberg Alley Performance Tent in Quidi Vidi grounds

The Performance Tent was a combination of a main tent and a few smaller ones, housing the main concert stage, bleachers for spectators, bathrooms, social areas, speed bars, wine and liquor booths, VIP sections, Candy bars and even food from Jags Hotel. To my estimate, It could house easily upwards of 3000 people. With Covid pandemic around, this number has been significantly reduced this year. Masks and Social Distancing were recommended and mandatory during the event.

After 2 wonderful evenings, the concerts had to be cancelled due to the landfall of hurricane Larry. Unfortunately, the “Tent” was no match for hurricane winds with 140+ km/hour, it was brought down during the peak of the hurricane. Fortunately, there was no injury incurred.

Despite the misfortune, the show must go on and music never dies. With the help from the City of St. John’s and St. John’s Sports and Entertainment, the rest of the concerts were moved down to Mile One Centre, downtown. With only one day of preparation, the crew amazingly pulled it off creating an almost identical and even larger setting for the remaining concerts to continue. A big thank you to the hard work, vision and dedication by the event organizers John Steele and Shawn Basha!!

Here are some photos from the many bands who played at the event. It was simply amazing to see the amount of people supporting these concerts even during the pandemic and wearing masks when not actively drinking.

A big thank you to Iceberg Alley Concerts for the opportunity to showcase some of these wonderful concert moments and look forward to next year’s. Wear masks, using hand sanitizing stations, keep social distancing whenever possible and follow all Public Health Guidelines will allow all of us to enjoy the new normal under Covid. Stay Safe!!!
